The former Prime Minister of Rhodesia, Ian Smith, died earlier this week. I’ll hopefully be getting something more substantial about this next week but for now, you can read the BBC’s obituary.

King of Kings

Lately I’ve been thinking about the whole idea of Christ as King a good deal. It seems to me that this idea, which is missing in our democracy-bred western churches, is a good part of the reason we so aptly misunderstand who Jesus is in our churches. On that note, I’ve been reading/contemplating the long [...]

Screwtape and Cynicism

Last night I went to see Disney’s new movie, Enchanted. It’s definitely on the cheesy/corny side at times but I’m a romantic and an idealist, so it’s ok for me to like things that are corny.
One of the things that stuck with me as I watched the film was how the main male character, a [...]

Wikipedia and the Gospel

So as part of my job, I’m doing a lot of research on wikis. Most of you have probably heard of wikipedia, which is the most well-known example of a wiki. Basically, a wiki is a site where anyone can edit content. Obviously, this idea causes many to not trust wikis, as is evidenced by [...]

It’s about reminding ourselves to really think about what we are buying‚ why we are buying it‚ and whether we [...]

Megan Meier and the Revolution of Hope

Anthony Bradley posted about a tragic story out of the suburbs of St. Louis earlier this week. I read it and felt like I had to write about it, so that’s what I wrote about in my column for the Daily Nebraskan this week.
Would love to get some feedback on it, and to think through [...]

Puritan Problems
Posted by Eric | Category: faith of our fathers | Leave a Comment
Lately I’ve been thinking about my need to have certain “heroes of the faith” deconstructed. I fall easily into the trap of idolizing certain people in the past, treating them as “men of whom the world are not worthy” and failing to recognize their deep sinfulness and need of the gospel. This has also led [...]

A Request
Posted by Eric | Category: the real world intrudes | 1 Comment
To those of you who read our blog, I’d appreciate some prayer. I’m preaching at the church I attend tomorrow. Its the first time in several years I’ve gotten this opportunity, and its exciting, but I’m also all too aware of my inadequacies, so anyone who wants to remember me before our Lord, many thanks.
